The very small cost of federal bee research is so tiny that we have, several times, had to actually go down to DC and buttonhole congresscritters to ask them to add a few million in "mark up" of the budget becuause the USDA actually forgot to include fiunding for the bee labs in their budget - THAT's how little money would be saved by closing ...
The core idea behind the Primal Bee hive is thermal efficiency. Most standard hives, even insulated ones, lose a huge amount of heat through poor design and box geometry. That heat loss forces bees to spend massive amounts of energy just to maintain brood temperature, especially in cooler months or during early development.
