Interesting that commuter railroads can find a demand for nostalgic bar car - and may introduce "cafe cars" - but Amtrak and its state partners don't see value in providing a cafe car for multi-hour train routes.
I never thought I'd EVER "wax nostalgic" over Amtrak operations. This is in part due to my relatively late start in shooting slides, having missed their true "smorgasbord era", (as well as the halcyon days of the WP/BN "Inside Gateway" multi-colored lash-ups).

Oh, yes, the reason I detoured off I-65 was to have a nostalgic meal in the Country Kitchen restaurant. My family used to stop there for a meal or for the homemade pie when we made the trip to and from Rensselaer, Indiana, where I went to school at St. Joseph's College back in the 60s. The food is still good and the pies are still homemade.
