1. Dissolve 6.5g KOH (potassium hydroxide) in 1600mL water and add several drops of universal indicator. Place in 2000mL graduated cylinder.
Science presenter Jon Chase uses universal indicator to measure the pH of a solution. The pH of the oceans is slightly alkaline but the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is acidifying them.
