The major champion could not convert from inside five feet on the final hole at Royal Melbourne, handing the title to Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen
Dec 7 (Reuters) - Rory McIlroy, the world's second-ranked golfer, has called on organisers of the Australian Open to reschedule the event in an effort to attract a stronger international field to the tournament in the future.
On Sunday, December 7, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen claimed the Crown Australian Open 2025, beating Cameron Smith by one stroke.
He will turn 46 during the week of the British Open next July at Royal Birkdale, and he will be playing in the championship for the 26th consecutive time. Adam Scott continues to play high-level golf year after year after year.
Danish golfer Rasmus Neergaard-Peterson has claimed the Australian Open, winning by just one shot over home favourite Cam Smith.
World No. 82 Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen (-14) recorded birdies on 16, 17 and 18 on Saturday to regain ascendancy and forge a two-shot lead at Royal Melbourne heading into the final day. The PGA Tour-bound Dane will feel the pressure though as there is a dangerous chasing group on his tail, including Smith and Si Woo Kim who are -12.
