Linear Technology Corp. has introduced the LT3724, a single-chip, -40 ºC to 125 ºC-rated dc/dc controller for use in step-down, step-up, inverting or SEPIC circuits with up to 100 W of output power.
A substantial percentage of regulator requirements involve stepping down the primary voltage. Although linear regulators can do this, they cannot achieve the efficiency of switching based approaches1.
If you simulate circuits that include not only analog, but also digital or switching/PWM aspects, then you know that traditional “AC” or frequency-domain analysis cannot be used for these designs.
