Splines… Not only do they create a beautiful contrasting detail on mitered corners, but they add a considerable amount of stability to the joint. Mitered corners are an end-grain to end-grain glue joint, which doesn’t come with a ton of strength. Splines solve that issue by adding in a face-grain glue joint.
